CHIROPRACTIC CARE
What does a chiropractic adjustment actually feel like?
Most patients describe it as a firm but gentle pressure followed by a popping or cracking sound. That sound is simply gas releasing from the joint similar to cracking your knuckles. The vast majority of patients feel immediate relief or a sense of lightness after their adjustment. Some may notice mild soreness for 24 hours, much like how muscles feel after a good workout.
How many chiropractic visits will I need before I see results?
This depends on how long the problem has been present and how your body responds. Acute issues like a recent strain often improve within 3–6 visits. Chronic conditions that have built up over months or years typically require a longer plan usually 12–20 visits to create lasting change. At Cardin Wellness, we reassess your progress regularly so your care plan always reflects where you actually are, not a one-size-fits-all schedule.
Is chiropractic care safe? Are there any risks I should know about?
Chiropractic care has an excellent safety record when performed by a licensed chiropractor. Serious complications are extremely rare. Studies consistently show chiropractic is one of the safest forms of treatment for musculoskeletal conditions. Temporary soreness after an adjustment is the most common side effect and typically resolves within a day or two. During your first visit, we conduct a thorough health history and physical examination to ensure the approach is appropriate for your specific situation.
Can chiropractic care help with problems other than back pain?
Absolutely. While back pain is the most common reason people seek chiropractic care, the spine’s relationship to the nervous system means that misalignments can affect far more than your back. Our patients seek care for neck pain, headaches, sciatica, hip and knee pain, sports injuries, posture issues, and even conditions like migraines, digestive problems, and fatigue. The goal is to remove interference from the nervous system so the entire body functions better.
Do I need a referral from my doctor to see a chiropractor?
No referral is needed. You can contact Cardin Wellness directly to schedule your first appointment. That said, we do work collaboratively with medical doctors and other healthcare providers when appropriate. If we believe your condition requires a different type of care or additional testing, we will tell you honestly and help coordinate that.
Will I need to keep coming back forever once I start chiropractic care?
Not necessarily. Your care plan has a clear beginning and end. Many patients complete a course of treatment and are discharged with home exercises and lifestyle guidance. Some choose to continue with periodic wellness visits similar to how you see a dentist even when your teeth feel fine — because they notice improved energy, sleep, and overall function with maintenance care. The choice is always yours.
What should I wear and what happens during my first visit?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Your first visit includes a detailed health history conversation, a full physical and postural assessment, and if needed digital motion X-rays. We will explain exactly what we find and what we recommend before any treatment begins. Nothing happens without your understanding and consent.
ACUPUNCTURE
Does acupuncture hurt? I am nervous about needles.
This is the most common concern we hear, and we are happy to put it to rest. Acupuncture needles are nothing like injection needles they are hair-thin, solid, and flexible. Most people feel little to nothing as they are inserted. You might notice a mild heaviness, warmth, or tingling sensation at the needle site, which practitioners call ‘de qi’ and is considered a sign the treatment is working. The majority of patients are surprised by how relaxing the experience actually is.
What conditions can acupuncture treat at Cardin Wellness?
We use acupuncture to address a wide range of conditions including chronic pain, headaches and migraines, neck and back pain, sciatica, anxiety, insomnia, digestive issues, fatigue, hormonal imbalances, and immune system support. It works exceptionally well on its own and even better when combined with chiropractic care or nutritional counseling as part of a comprehensive wellness plan.
How does acupuncture work from a scientific standpoint?
Acupuncture stimulates specific points on the body that correspond to neural pathways, fascial lines, and circulatory channels. Research shows it triggers the release of endorphins and serotonin, reduces inflammatory markers, regulates the autonomic nervous system, and improves blood flow to targeted areas. In traditional Chinese medicine, this is understood as restoring the flow of Qi (life energy) through meridians. Both frameworks point to the same outcome genuine physiological change in the body.
How many acupuncture sessions will I need?
Acute conditions often respond within 4–6 sessions. Chronic or complex conditions may require 8–12 sessions to achieve lasting results. We typically recommend starting with one to two sessions per week, then spacing them out as you improve. We use AcuGraph digital meridian imaging to objectively track your progress and adjust your treatment plan based on real data.
Can acupuncture be combined with my chiropractic care?
Yes, and this combination is highly effective. Chiropractic adjustments correct structural alignment while acupuncture addresses the nervous system, energy flow, and soft tissue tension. Many of our patients who combine both therapies report faster recovery and more sustained results than with either alone. We will design an integrated plan that makes sense for your specific health goals.
Is acupuncture covered by insurance?
Coverage varies significantly by insurance plan. Some plans cover acupuncture for certain conditions like chronic pain, while others do not. We recommend calling your insurance provider before your first visit to verify your benefits. Our team can also help you understand your options and will provide the documentation needed for any reimbursement claims.
Are there any side effects after an acupuncture session?
Side effects are uncommon and almost always mild. Some patients feel a brief soreness at needle sites, light-headedness immediately after a session, or a temporary increase in fatigue as the body begins its healing response. These pass quickly — usually within a few hours. Many patients actually feel deeply relaxed or even euphoric after treatment.
